Your Midlife Drinking Type is:
Thinker
Your drinking habits have become a mental puzzle you can’t quite solve, despite trying every strategy you can find.
But deep down, you know there is a way...
❓ How the Thinker Pattern Takes Over
You’ve been experimenting for years: Dry January, mindful drinking apps, alternating drinks, setting rules… and watching each approach eventually fall apart.
You find yourself analysing what went wrong, reading another article, trying another tactic and wondering why you can’t figure out something that you think should be straightforward.
You understand your patterns. You know your triggers. You can articulate exactly why moderation matters—but sustainable implementation keeps slipping through your fingers.
You have a collection of abandoned strategies and a growing sense of frustration that you “should” have cracked this by now.
You know that it’s time for a change, but the thought of committing to yet another approach that might not stick feels exhausting.
🚷 Where the Thinker Pattern Leads
So things carry on carrying on until one day you wake up and realise...
-
You’re spending more mental energy analysing your drinking than actually changing it.
-
One imperfect night keeps becoming proof that the entire strategy has failed.
-
You don’t want to spend another five years collecting moderation techniques without finding a way to use them in your actual life.
⏩ Instead...
Picture yourself choosing one approach based on what suits you, your drinking and the situation you’re going into.
Maybe you zebra stripe at a friend’s birthday. Maybe you set a two-drink maximum and switch to low/no afterwards. Maybe you decide that a break from alcohol would be more useful right now.
You try it, pay attention to what happens and note what helped.
If part of the plan doesn’t work, you adjust it the next time instead of throwing the whole thing away and heading back to Google to start from scratch again.
That’s what changing the Thinker pattern looks like:
You stop trying to find the perfect answer and start using what you already know to actually make a difference.
🌱 Your First Steps Towards Drinking Differently
How do I get there, Denise?
Taking this quiz was Step 1 (pats self firmly on back 😉👍🏾)
Step 2 is to download your free Thinker bonus, ‘Passive vs Active Moderation: Which Path Is Right For You?’
Inside your free guide, you’ll get:
✅ A tracker to help you commit to one approach, see what actually happened, and adjust it next time — instead of abandoning it and starting over.
✅ A short cheat-sheet on active vs. passive moderation, so you can make your pick quickly rather than keep weighing it up.
✅ Five active moderation techniques, with the pros, cons and situations each is suited to — so you can pick one and move, not keep comparing.
All so that you can stop adding new strategies to the collection and start building on the ones that actually work for you.

🔋 Taking Back The Power of Choice
So now that you know that there is something that you can do to take back the power of choice from alcohol, your final step is to embark on a journey to a life less intoxicated and start your 4-Week Midlife Mindful Drinking Reset.
The 4WR is created with Thinker drinkers like you firmly in mind.
Week 1 helps you recognise your drinking patterns and separate what is actually happening from everything you think you should already know.
Week 2 helps you set boundaries that protect you and your goals, while Week 3 gives you practical ways to manage your stress, energy and health.
Week 4 is where you bring those foundations together and create your own longer-term framework. One you can adjust when life changes without abandoning everything and starting again.
“I’m 40 and have been trying to change my relationship with alcohol (weekend binging) for a long time. I’ve settled on what I call OEO—‘only ever one’ alcoholic drink in a 24hr period and AF drinks the rest of the time. It really works for me, and having listened to a few episodes of your podcast now, I really appreciate your approach to low and no that works for the individual.”

The Reset isn’t about ‘going sober’ or saying you have to give up booze forever.
It’s about taking back the power of choice over alcohol on your own terms.
You can find out more about the 4 Week Midlife Mindful Drinking Reset below.
And know that while your journey to a life less intoxicated starts with a single step, you’ve already taken the first two today!

Meet your Mindful Drinking Mentor
Hi, I'm Denise Hamilton-Mace (Dee, to friends), and I've been drinking differently for over 5 years now. After a 24-year stint in hospitality, drinking alcohol daily and partying like it was 1999, it wasn't until one hangover too many and a very upset little boy that I decided it was time to start taking back the power of choice from alcohol.
Now, as a podcast host, writer and public speaker on all things moderation in midlife, I'm on a mission to help as many people as possible to do the same, all on their own terms.
Welcome to your life less intoxicated!
