Your Midlife Drinking Type is:
People Pleaser

Your drinking habits are increasingly shaped by keeping everyone else comfortable, even when you want something different.

❓ How the People Pleaser Pattern Takes Over

You’ve mastered the art of the smile-and-nod: accepting drinks you don’t want, staying out longer than you planned and prioritising other people’s good times over your own well-being.

You know exactly which friends will keep pushing “just one more”, and you cave because saying no in the moment feels harder than dealing with tomorrow’s repercussions.

The word “no” gets stuck in your throat, and before you know it, you’re three drinks in and silently resenting everyone around you—including yourself.

You know that it’s time for a change, but the thought of being the awkward one, the party pooper or the friend who “can’t handle it anymore” feels unbearable.

🚷 Where the People Pleaser Pattern Leads

So things carry on carrying on until one day you wake up and realise...

  • The drinks you didn’t really want are still leaving you with hangovers that are entirely yours.

  • Other people’s comfort keeps winning over the promises you make to yourself.

  • You don’t want to spend another five years saying yes to alcohol whenever somebody else finds your no uncomfortable.

⏩ Instead...

Picture yourself at dinner when someone offers to top up your glass.

You say, “I’m good, thanks”—calmly, confidently and without launching into a full explanation of your drinking plans.

They push again, but this time you recognise what’s going on. Maybe they want company in their choice. Maybe they think refusing the drink means refusing their hospitality. Maybe they simply struggle when somebody stops following the usual script.

You hold your line for that one moment.

And they move on. No drama, no judgement and no awkward stand-off about what’s in your glass.

That’s what changing the People Pleaser pattern looks like:

You make your drinking choices based on what you want, rather than what other people expect.

🔋 Taking Back The Power of Choice

So now that you know that there is something that you can do to take back the power of choice from alcohol, your final step is to embark on a journey to a life less intoxicated and start your 4-Week Midlife Mindful Drinking Reset.

The 4WR is created with People Pleaser drinkers like you firmly in mind.

Week 1 helps you notice the moments when your drinking decisions start being shaped by the people around you.

Week 2 is where you put boundaries in place that protect you and your goals, without automatically changing your plans to keep everybody else happy.

Week 3 helps you manage your stress, energy and health so that holding those boundaries doesn’t feel like one more difficult thing to deal with.

And because knowing what you want doesn’t guarantee that everybody else will agree with it, Week 4 helps you turn those individual choices into a longer-term approach you can use in different situations and with different people.

I just wanted to say I'm finding the course really interesting and very helpful. Actually, all the information on all the different platforms is excellent. It's so honest and refreshingly non-judgemental.
I've wanted to cut out drinking for a while now, but not to feel guilty if I have the occasional one. […] The course has really helped me explain to friends my decision not to drink, as some of them do act like their puppy has just died if I say I'm not joining them when they open a bottle.
So thank you. I came across your podcast by accident, and I'm so glad I did.

Meet your Mindful Drinking Mentor

Hi, I'm Denise Hamilton-Mace (Dee, to friends), and I've been drinking differently for over 5 years now. After a 24-year stint in hospitality, drinking alcohol daily and partying like it was 1999, it wasn't until one hangover too many and a very upset little boy that I decided it was time to start taking back the power of choice from alcohol.

Now, as a podcast host, writer and public speaker on all things moderation in midlife,  I'm on a mission to help as many people as possible to do the same, all on their own terms.

Welcome to your life less intoxicated!
